跨界的流動者，雖受到階級、種族和性別等等結構性的限制，但她/他們從來不是被動的傀儡，而是積極的在有限條件下尋找出路；跨界流動，正是她/他們主體性的具體展現。近年來，我們更見到越來越多自下而上、積極地試圖與國家治理手段和種種社會壓迫相對抗的移民/工運動的出現，包括移民/工自身或隱或顯的組織結社，也包括移民/工人權倡議的運動。移民/工議題的出現，正在挑戰著社會科學研究原有的許多理論與關懷焦點，尤其移民/工研究往往橫跨多個領域，需要跨學科之間的學術對話與交流，以擴大這個領域的研究空間與理論發展。
