錢故校長思亮先生（1907-1983）是臺灣大學第五任校長，出掌臺大凡十九年（1951-1970），領導臺大走過蹇困貧乏的年代，逐步發展為根基穩固、規模宏富的綜合型大學。臺大有今天的發展與成就，錢校長居功厥偉。本書首述先生生平傳略，進而縷述其育材治校之方針、待人治事之精神，尤著意於先生之科學精神及文化涵養，末附公函二十五篇，俾與前文論述互相參證。讀者一編在手，藉以知其人、論其世，或能想見先哲遺型的丰采，而略知臺大之所以能躋身世界頂尖大學之林，前人之德業，實不可或忘。
